Below is a brief outline on our club awards and the criteria for awardees.

Competitive Awards

Most Improved Player

Criteria: 

Greatest improvement over the season, taking into account the following factors: 

  • Improvement in playing performance over the season (in terms of skill and ‘for the team’ factors) 
  • Willingness to listen, learn and shows commitment and effort at training and games 
  • General team behaviour and improvement (i.e. relating to others in the team, coach and officials) 
  • Shows good sportsmanship by accepting umpires decisions at weekly games and coaches decision in position placements each week 

Team MVP

Criteria: 

Performed the best and given their all for the team, taking into account the following factors: 

  • Playing contribution to the team (i.e. a ‘for the team’ and not an individual playing contributor to the team) 
  • Commitment and effort to the team, regularly attends training and games 
  • Social contributor to the team (i.e. a good team person) 
  • Courteous to fellow team mates and officials & mindful of others players’ needs 
  • Shows good sportsmanship by accepting umpires decisions at weekly games and coaches decision in position placements each week

Coach of Year

Criteria: 

  • Shows great leadership by inspiring athletes and coaches, and building a culture of respect and teamwork.
  • Encourages players to grow, both as athletes and individuals, helping them build confidence and resilience.
  • Makes everyone feel included and valued, no matter their background or ability.
  • Devotes time and effort to improving the team, 
  • Sets an example of fairness, honesty, and good sportsmanship
  • Connects the Club with the community through service and positive involvement.
  • Puts players' wellbeing first, making sure everyone is safe and supported.
  • Welcomes new ideas and training methods to help the team succeed.
  • Earns respect and trust from players and families
  • Creates a positive impact that lasts, shaping the Club's future for years to come.

Junior Umpire of the Year

Criteria: 

Recognises a young umpire who demonstrates integrity, fairness, and a deep understanding of the game. 

  • Shows dedication by learning and applying the rules, managing matches with confidence, and remaining calm under pressure. 
  • Acts as a role model by treating players, coaches, and fellow officials with respect, and upholds the spirit of friendly competition. 
  • Strives for improvement, welcomes feedback, and inspires others to pursue umpiring with enthusiasm. 
  • Leaves a positive impression on the court, helping to build a safe, enjoyable, and respectful sporting environment for everyone.

Senior Umpire of the Year (Sue Maskell Award)

Criteria ;

Honours an experienced umpire who exemplifies leadership, professionalism, and an exceptional grasp of the game. 

  • Demonstrates unwavering commitment to upholding the rules and fostering fair play, even in challenging situations. 
  • Guides and mentors less experienced officials, generously sharing knowledge and encouraging growth within the umpiring community. 
  • Maintains composure and authority on the field, earning the respect of players, coaches, and spectators alike. 
  • Embraces learning opportunities and adapts to changes in the sport, setting a high standard for others to follow. 
  • Leaves a lasting legacy through consistent excellence, integrity, and a passion for supporting the game at every level.

Chris Dyer Club Spirit Award

This award is given to a player who exemplifies the Canons Rebels spirit:   

Criteria:

  • Celebrates a club member who radiates enthusiasm, camaraderie, and unwavering support for their teammates and the broader club community.
  • Embodies the true essence of club spirit by fostering inclusiveness, positivity, and unity both on and off the court.
  • Volunteers time and energy selflessly, always willing to pitch in, organise, and encourage others to participate.
  • Creates a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and inspired to contribute.
  • Demonstrates outstanding sportsmanship and respect towards players, coaches, officials, and supporters.
  • Acts as a motivator, uplifting spirits during challenging moments and championing the club’s values through every action.
  • Through their infectious passion and generosity, helps build a vibrant, resilient, and supportive club culture that endures beyond the season.
  • Of course, our club thrives on the success of our teams but flourishes even more on the time and energy our players give back to the club to keep the Canons Rebels spirit firing.

Barbara Hawgood Memorial Trophy –

Barbara was an amazing CRNC Committee club member for many a year.  Taking on many roles across the volunteer group and helping shape Canons for the future. 

This perpetual award is given to a particularly outstanding club member who has gone above and beyond throughout the season, both on and off the court.

Criteria:

  • Serve as shining examples and role models, inspiring those around them through their actions and character
  • Consistently go above and beyond the call of duty, setting a standard that others aspire to match
  • Are ever-ready with a helping hand, lending support wherever and whenever it is needed most
  • Place the Club’s best interests at the heart of all they do, both on and off the field
  • Uphold and represent the Club, its sporting codes, and its community with unwavering excellence, honour, and integrity
  • Demonstrate deep, steadfast commitment to the Club’s core values, fostering unity and a sense of belonging
  • Exemplify true sportsmanship and fair play, championing the ideals that lie at the foundation of our community
  • Volunteer their time and talents freely, motivated not by personal gain but by a genuine passion for service

This most prestigious honour is reserved for those whose selfless dedication and exemplary spirit uplift the entire Canons Rebels family. Nominees are champions of our shared values, making a profound and lasting difference for the Club and its community—not just during play, but in every facet of life
