Our Story: Celebrating Community and Connection

Artist Profile: Renee Watego

RENEE WATEGO ART

Renee Watego is a talented Bundjulung woman with kin ties to the Torres Strait. The club extends its deepest gratitude to Renee for taking our story and transforming it into artwork that we are proud to wear—not only for Indigenous Round, but for every round as we represent the club.

Connecting Through Story

Renee Watego Artwork story 2

During our discussions with Renee about the vision for our club's imagery, we discovered a meaningful connection: our president at the time had previously coached Renee's cousin in Queensland in men's indoor—a fair while ago. Building on these connections has added a lovely dimension to the collaboration.

Artwork Meaning and Values

Renee Watego Artwork story 1

The artwork represents the core values and aspirations of our club. It embodies community, dedication, authenticity, passion, happiness, joy, teamwork, cherished memories, opportunity, and a welcoming spirit. Above all, it celebrates the importance of representing community and family within the First Nations context.
